Shri Sai SatCharitra Chapter 14 has story of Ratanji Shapurji Wadia who had no son. There were many and are many parents without any child. Sai Baba’s compassion and grace allowed them to have this gift of a child. This chapter of Shri Sai SatCharitra gives story of such wealthy and pious Parsi man, who was gifted with much wealth, honor and health.

This gentleman was grounded in spite of all his wealth, and spent much time in good work and with good company. His centered attitude towards life made him looked much satisfied. His friend Das Ganu, a very close and loved devotee knew that he lacked a child. The love of a child, child playing around in his home were apart from all the wealth good pious and saint loving people lived.

Das Ganu having been with Sai Baba. Had seen and felt many of miraculous powers of Sai Baba suggested him to visit Shirdi. Have darshan of this great sage and win His grace for a child or children.

Ratanji followed Das Ganu’s advice and visited Shirdi. He had the darshan of Sai Baba and with faith and devotion with clean heart He prayed to Baba, “ When people are in trouble, they come to Baba’s feet and He protects them immediately. This what i have heard. Hence i have come to see You with an ardent wish, which i shall respectfully relate at your feet. Please do not turn me away, O Maharaj.

Sai Baba asked first for Dakshina. He said, “Do not worry, needlessly! your misfortune is on the wane from hence.”

He gave udi-prasad to Ratanji as he always did with all His beloved devotees. Placed His hand of benediction on Ratanji’s head and said, “Allah will fulfill your heart’s desire.”

Later on, with suitable passage of time. Ratanji’s family tree began to spread and blossom, being laden with sons and daughters. Ratanji’s wish was satisfied. Thereafter He continued to visit Sai Baba and had His darshan.

Four out of twelve sons survived, and lived a happy life. The even tempered and centered Ratanji accepted willingly and without a slight trace of complain or regret, what had been ordained by faith.

Why Sai Baba asked for Dakshina, how he would ask Dakshina is also discussed in this chapter.

There is an interesting question asked by the Hemadpant in this chapter, “Why this book (Sai SatCharitra) about Sai Leelas? And the answer comes from the devotee is equally nice and true. He says, It is Sai who got written it through me, and He alone knows the purpose.” Great indeed. He adds, “To write such a book requires spiritual authority. And i am but a servant of Sai, who keeps these records by His commands. I am only the slave of His commands.” The love for His Guru as the Guru should be loved comes out of his heart.

Later he adds something very true and what many have experienced about Shri Sai SatCharitra. This is no mere Life-Story; it is a store of happiness. The sweet nectar of salvation, which can be enjoyed only by the most fortunate one who has faith and devotion.

Om Sai Ram.
